Leiden will soon have a new ‘Hofje’ (‘courtyard’): the ‘Hof van Zurloh’. The construction of the project, located between the Breestraat, Mosterdsteeg and Botermarkt, will start mid-September 2020. The new courtyard, with the monumental Maison Zurloh-building as an absolute eye-catcher, covers 20 buildings. It will house, among others, an Albert Heijn supermarket, 25 apartments, and a public underground bicycle shed. The entrance to the apartments is located at the Mosterdsteeg.
Owner and developer Johan Oudendal is pleased that, after years of preparation, the construction can finally start: “The design and appearance of the Hof van Zurloh fits perfectly with the historic allure of the Breestraat. We have opted for a combination of shops on the ground floor with houses above, as was the case in the Breestraat in the past. That brings liveliness and social control.”
The design and elaboration of this project were carried out in collaboration with architectural firm Mulder Van Tussenbroek. If you have further questions about this project, please send an email to: hofvanzurloh@oudendalgroep.nl.
